Ding DONG BEI!

For people who love to try new Chinese dishes, one place to go to is Binondo.

A known restaurant in Binondo is the Dong Bei Dumpling restaurant. Walk along the street beside the Binondo church and you will see the quaint establishment. To welcome you is a clear glass sliding door with Chinese characters etched onto them exposing if not 1 but 2 dumpling “masters” strutting their stuff.

Coming from the restaurant’s name itself, dumplings are their specialty.  Their dumplings vary from chives to pork, etc... Oh so yummy! The mere thought makes me hungry! They serve each order hot and fresh just out of the steamer. Every bite is a taste of a soft dumpling wrap enriched with ground pork enveloped by fresh onion leaks. You can fit a whole dumpling in your mouth. Each swallow is just a prelude to a succeeding dumpling piece, you’d suddenly realize the whole plate is bare and you’d be calling the waitress for another order. Oh no, but don’t you worry, if ever caught in that scenario (which is likely to happen) your wallet may still be smiling, each order costs only P120 for 14 pieces.
Aside from their dumpling, another must try is their “Fried chicken with sinjian flavor”.  With just the right blend, medium sliced chicken pieces grace each serving plate with bits of sesame seed and balanced off with slices of carrot and zayote.  Perfect with plain rice and just enough to share with a friend. Each spoonful in rich in flavour and the mix is just in its perfect blend. A must try I must say.

How to get there:
You may ride a "Lawton" bus from the south or along Taft Avenue, Manila. Go down just across the Manila City hall where a jeepney terminal is waiting. Ride the jeepney that says "Divisoria". Go down in front of the Binondo church where a few steps will take you to Dong Bei Dumpling restaurant.
